Dellums to host conference on youth violence prevention Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums recently announced that his office will host a “Peace Conference for Youth Violence Prevention” on Feb. 9 at the Claremont Hotel. The mayor urged Bay Area residents to submit nominations for clergy members who have displayed exemplary service for Oakland’s youth. “The faith leaders in this city continue to step up across the board to create a life line for our residents in need,” said Dellums. “With this peace conference, we aim to unite a stellar faith community for violence prevention that will allow us to bolster our efforts for peace through social outreach programs, networking and mutual aid from our faith community.” Oakland Police Chief Anthony Batts will be a featured speaker at the event. He will discuss existing programs for youth that incorporate the faith community. Selected local clergy or congregations who have made a significant contribution to community will be honored and they will share their innovative approaches to youth violence prevention. To submit nominations for members of the faith community, visit: www.oaklandnet.com or www.mayorrondellums.org, or email MayorsPeaceConference@oaklandnet.com.
