East Bay Center for the Performing Arts
begins spring semester of classes for youth

From the Globe Education Desk

The East Bay Center for the Performing Arts is starting up its spring semester of after-school performing arts classes. Classes are offered in everything from hip-hop, jazz and West African music and to acting, ballet and digital film.
The East Bay Center for the Performing Arts has been offering classes to the youth of West Contra Costa County for almost 40 years. Scholarships are available in many cases.
Most classes are held after school beginning at 4 p.m., although some classes meet on Saturdays. Classes start Jan. 28 and run through May 15.
Students have the opportunity to perform for their parents and friends at the always popular “1000 Steps” recital in May. Many students choose to join the advanced “diploma” program and become members of one of the center’s resident performing arts companies. Some students have gone on to successful careers in the arts.
For more information, contact Randall Wong at (510) 234-5624, ext. *815, or randall@eastbaycenter.org. The East Bay Center for the Performing Arts is located in the historic Winters Building at 339 11th St. in Richmond.
The center also hosts free, interactive performing and visual arts workshops for children ages 3-5 and their parents. Professional artists offer 45-minute dance and music classes followed by 45-minute visual arts classes. Siblings are welcome to attend.
The winter preschool arts program will be held on Fridays from Jan. 9 to March 6, from 9:45 a.m. to noon. All classes will take place at the West County YMCA, located at 263 South 20th St. in Richmond.
Caregivers must be present on-site throughout the duration of the workshop. Healthy free snacks are provided during classes. Registration is required. To register, contact Michelle Flynn at (510) 234.5624, ext. *827, or michelle.flynn@eastbaycenter.org.
