New police chief introduced to Oakland residents In a series of community town hall meetings, Mayor Ron Dellums has been introducing Oakland’s new police chief to city residents and sharing his and Chief Anthony Batts’ vision of public safety for the city. “The purpose of this occasion is for Oakland to come together, feel the strength of our citizenship and discuss the important issue of public safety,” Dellums said. “Chief Batts and I want the input of the community, because without it, we cannot move this city forward. I am confident that the people of Oakland will find Chief Batts to be an accomplished leader and a great asset for our city.” The last of the three meetings will be held on Nov. 18 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Tassafaronga Rec Center, located at 975 85th Ave. in Oakland. Those who don’t speak English can request an interpreter in Spanish, Chinese and/or Vietnamese by calling (510) 238-2368. For more information, call the Oaklanders Assistance Center at (510) 444-CITY (2489) or email OAC@oaklandnet.com.
