Lakefest '09 revives past success of Festival at the Lake
Every summer, for a few days, the Lake Merritt area was transformed into the hot spot for families and fun. By any measure, the Festival at the Lake was a rousing Oakland success story. However, the annual event grew to be such a monstrous success - drawing thousands to Lake Merritt's expansive park area and with it, instances of disruptive behaviors - that the annual event was stopped. Fast forward to this past weekend when Lakefest '09 took place along Lakeshore Avenue - year two in the city's newest efforts to draw out the public and swell civic pride.
