BART, employee unions continue labor negotiations
The transit agency is looking to cut $100 million in labor costs to help close a $310 million operating deficit over the next four years. Operating without a contract since early July, many BART workers say they fear if all parties are unable to come to an agreement, the employees will be forced to strike. Carlos Rivera, a spokesman for SEIU 1021 — which represents about 1,400 mechanics, custodians, safety inspectors and clerical employees — offered his thoughts about the ongoing contract negotiations during last week’s vote in Oakland. |
