By Jenelle Black

Steven Hurst Photo“Say it loud, I’m black and I’m proud. Say it loud, I’m black and I’m proud,” sang Fillmore Slim, a 1970s icon and now international blues singer. He was part of the festivities Saturday during the 22nd annual Juneteenth Festival in Berkeley.

The event, “Celebrating the First Family: Building Villages of Home,” was a day to convey a message of positivity.
