On Tuesday evening Richmond Vice Mayor John Marquez, on behalf of Mayor Gayle McLaughlin, and Councilman Nathaniel Bates presented a proclamation to the Richmond Globe for its contributions to the city.

The proclamation praised the Globe for its writing style, journalistic excellence and presentation of balanced reporting and representation of positive images of Richmond.
The Globe is a community newspaper that focuses primarily on positive news and publishes a weekly accounting of the activities of outstanding community efforts that seldom appear in mainstream publications.
Accepting the proclamation were Globe Publisher Vernon Whitmore and Associate Publisher and Editor Eleanor Boswell-Raine.
Whitmore, a fervent believer that “good news sells,” said, “There is a pervasive and corrosive tide of misinformation and negativity that has tarnished the images of the cities of Richmond and Oakland. The Globe emphasizes the need to reverse distorted information related to crime, schools and neighborhoods which have so far prevailed over the positive news.”
Boswell-Raine, who manages the editorial staff, said, “The Globe has managed to attract talented reporters who are aching for the opportunity to write positive stories and to hone their journalistic skills.”
The Globe Newspaper Group publishes two papers, the Richmond/Contra Costa County Globe and the Oakland/Alameda County Globe. It branched out beyond print, and now utilizes its website, email news service and weekly radio show, “The Globe News Hour,” to provide a variety of convenient mediums for its audience.
Four years ago, Whitmore founded the publication. Today it enjoys broad acceptance throughout the East Bay and uses bill boards, television, sponsorships and community involvement to acquaint its advertisers with its capabilities.
