Former city editor of Oakland Tribune
joins Globe as columnist

This edition marks the first installment of a new column by noted journalist Michelle Fitzhugh-Craig, former city editor for the Oakland Tribune. Her column, Stirring the Pot, will appear weekly in the Globe.
   Michelle Fitzhugh-Craig  Fitzhugh-Craig began her journalism career in 1998 as a freelance reporter for The Arizona Republic in Phoenix. She served as editor in chief for the AZ Examiner and for Arizona’s Black Pages, and worked in the same capacity with shades Magazine, an online publication that celebrates and promotes all women of color.
    Fitzhugh-Craig was a reporter for the Tri-Valley Herald in Pleasanton, assistant city editor for the San Mateo County Times and most recently city editor for the Oakland Tribune.
    Fitzhugh-Craig is a graduate of Arizona State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism. Her published works are included in Chicken Soup for the African American Woman’s Soul, Living in the Moment: A Guide to Living a Full and Spiritual Life and Making Shadow Boxes & Shrines.
    Among Fitzhugh-Craig’s awards are first place for investigative reporting from the Chauncey Bailey Project; Past and Potential Editorial Leadership Award from Maynard Media Academy, Harvard University and NABJ/New York Times Leadership Academy; and Associated Press Managing Editors Award.
