As America now on exhibit
at Oakland Museum of California

The Untold Stories: Baseball and
the Multicultural Experience kicked off one of the
many programs to be held at the Oakland Museum from
now until January 15, 2006.

Photos like Jose Luis Villegas’
“Grateful” photo of former Oakland A’s
shortstop Miguel Tejada, Willie Mays playing stickball
in Harlem, Jackie Robinson’s Dodgers jersey
and legendary McClymonds baseball
coach George Powles are just some of the images and
items currently on display at the Oakland Museum of
California for Baseball As America running now through
January 22, 2006.
Baseball
As America is the first major exhibition to examine
the relationship between the national pastime and
American culture.
The exhibition will run through
January 22, 2006 with programs and panel discussions
taking place until January 15.
Organized by the National Baseball
Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York,
Baseball As America is on a fouryear, 10-city nationwide
tour.
The museum will support and expand
the Hall of Fame’s rich history and iconic objects
with programs for all ages, interests, and communities.
Most of the programs are included
with museum admission.
Pacific Coast League Players’ Reunion
– September 24th This Saturday’s
program will be the Pacific Coast League Players’
Reunion from 11am-3pm. In the morning you can meet
former PCL players, including Billy Raimondi. An afternoon
panel discusses the 1949 PCL barnstorming trip to
Japan and the career of legendary McClymonds High
School coach George Powles. This program is included
with museum admission.
