Contra
Costa County Supervisor Mark DeSaulnier announced
that he will redistribute $104,000 in savings from
his office budget among four county agencies.
Of the savings, $42,500 will go to the
county library system to fund civic engagement projects,
help stock the new juvenile hall’s library and
develop a bilingual computer catalogue.
The county’s Health Department
will receive $11,600 to fund educational programs
that teach nutrition and shopping, and dental health
for children. Some $57,500 will go to the Department
of Employment and Human Services’ Independent
Living Skills Program, which helps foster care children
learn to live on their own when they turn 18.
The final recipient is the county’s
Probation Department, which will use its $2,950 to
provide window coverings and furniture for Summit
Boys Center.
Money will also be used to outfit the
young people leaving the Summit and Chris Adams centers
with basic necessities.
DeSaulnier said in a statement that the
funds are available because his office runs on the
“leanest possible budget.”
